First Baptist Church History 1999-2023

FBC in the New Millennium

By 1999, First Baptist was so crowded the Congregation decided to look for property that would allow for the construction of a new Church Building. In 2000, as members were inspecting the 20-acre parcel that would be the current church home they observed two red fox running across the meadow, hence the name Fox Meadow.

In the fall of 2003 plans were submitted and approved for a 35,000 sq. ft. worship facility.  After the 2003 groundbreaking, construction of the building began spring of 2004. Work was hired out as necessary but the majority of the construction and finish work was done by volunteer labor as the congregation was fortunate to have many members in the building trades.

On August 31, 2008 the first service was held in the newly constructed facility.  Areas of the building have been completed in stages as God has supplied the resources with the most recent the completion of the 5750 sq. ft. Worship Center on August 20, 2018.

The church is currently affiliated with Great Rivers Region of American Baptist Churches and has been since continuing with the vision of the founders of First Baptist Church in 1864, the facility continues to be a hub of activity not only for the congregation but for the community as well by serving as a meeting place for various service groups.  The recreation room has almost constant use by area youth and adults.
